Established in 1926, Pacific
Clinics provides behavioral and mental health programs for
persons of all ages in a culturally competent and
family-friendly setting. Committed to advancing strengths-based
recovery models and knowledge about mental health issues, the
Clinics responds to the needs of the diverse communities and
constituencies it serves across five Southern California
counties. With a highly qualified multiethnic staff of
1200-plus, Pacific Clinics is a leader in comprehensive,
client-driven treatment, offering services at its own
facilities, in schools, at community locations and in the home.
Last year, the Clinics expanded its capacity to provide
psychosocial rehabilitation, vocational and housing services
when it merged with Portals, a 50-year-old Los Angeles-based
agency. Recently, through Mental Health Service Act funding, the
Clinics has added Full Service Partnership programs for
underserved persons of various ethnic and age groups. Also,
member-run center programs that promote wellness and recovery
for adults and transitional age youth have been opened in three
counties over the past several months.
Clinics programs emphasize
prevention and early intervention, and offer innovative
integrated services for those with co-occurring mental illness
and substance abuse issues. Through its Pacific Clinics
Institute, the organization operates a widely recognized program
for student training across a range of mental health fields, as
well as offering a comprehensive continuing education curriculum
to its own staff and others in the field. It participates in
collaborative research as well as public education about mental
health, and is acknowledged as a tireless advocate for the
concerns of persons with mental illness and those who care about
them.
During the past several years,
the Clinics' growth has been guided by four major principles:
all programs must be community-based, collaborative, culturally
sensitive and cost-effective. These goals have been linked with
agency-wide policies for consumers and their families to be
involved in the planning and delivery of care, as well as in its
quality improvement efforts.
A private, non-profit agency
governed by a board of volunteer directors, Pacific Clinics
offers programs at more than 80 locations in Los Angeles,
Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino and Ventura counties. 83% of
its now more than $97-million budget is devoted to client care. |
