| The
Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health provides a
coordinated system of care and treatment for those individuals
with mental illness, who are a public responsibility, generally
that on Medi-Cal or without other support. The Department
coordinates and develops mental health services through a
community-based process. Primary services include inpatient care,
outpatient services (including crisis intervention/emergency
response), day treatment programs and case management provided
through County-operated mental health clinics and hospitals, State
hospitals, and private contract providers. Using standards
established by law and regulations, the Department reviews and
monitors the clinical and fiscal performance of all service
providers. The Director of
Mental Health serves as Public Guardian, acting as conservator for
persons gravely disabled by mental illness, and, as appointed by
the Court, for the frail elderly. The Director is also the
County’s Conservatorship Investigation Officer. |
