mission of the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services
is to protect, maintain, and improve the health of the community.
On behalf of the community, we assess health needs, develop
policies to address those needs, assure prevention and control of
communicable diseases, manage harmful agents in the environment,
encourage healthy behavior, and provide health promotion and
preventive services. We
assure that, to the extent resources are available, the medically
indigent and others who choose us for their care have appropriate
access to health services at the community level. We serve as a
provider, contractor, and coordinator of health care services that
are effective, efficient, comprehensive, and lower the cultural,
linguistic, financial, and disability related barriers to access.
We are a partner with the private sector, other County
departments, and affiliated educational institutions in training
health professionals. |
