The
Association of Community Human Service Agencies (ACHSA) is
made up of private non-profit community mental health providers
who contract with the Los Angeles County Department of Mental
Health. The organization includes more than 40 separate mental
health agencies in every region of the County. The purpose of the
Association is to promote the role of the private non-profit
sector in mental health service delivery and to provide mutual
support in pursuit of a more effective community mental health
system serving people suffering from serious mental illness.
The Association of Community Human Service Agencies is composed of
a vital network of community agencies, offering a full continuum
of community-based mental health services, run by volunteer boards
of directors who understand local needs and have access to all
segments of the community. ACHSA agencies maintain a high level of
fiscal and programmatic accountability, are innovative and quick
to respond to emerging consumer and community needs, and are able
to leverage significant private contributions and resources with
their County dollars. ACHSA and its agencies stand as an essential
element in California’s approach to treating persons with mental
illness in their own neighborhoods through a strong public/private
partnership.
