Resourcing LBHI Activities

The LBHI agenda can only be carried out through the financial support of individuals and organizations such as yours.  LBHI efforts are ambitions, attainable and good for the Hispanic community.  Your sponsorship of any aspect of our efforts is appreciated.

Your financial assistance is critical to the efforts of LBHI.  The institute has the following financial needs to support its efforts in Latino communities across the U.S. by:

  1. Providing educational opportunities to consumers by using rehabilitation models that lead to treatment compliance in mental health and co-occurring disorder education in detecting early signs of relapse and how to cope with the impending problem
  2. Family education is critical in understanding mental illness, and co occurring disorders.  Families carry a heavy responsibility in caring for person’s infirmed with mental illness or co-occurring disorders.
  3. Providing professional education to psychiatrist, social workers, nurses, psychologist, councilors and other service providers in providing prudent, efficient and compassionate care to Latinos suffering from mental illness or co-occurring disorders.
  4. Developing an anti stigma campaign which is particular to Latino’s
  5. Building the bridge between primary health care and behavioral health providers. Almost 30% of Latinos with emotional problems see help from primary care providers.  Often times primary care providers require assistance in understanding behavioral health disorders.  Additionally, these providers require assistance in developing proper referral channels.
  6. Translating research finding to services.  Currently the relationship between Behavioral Health Research and Service Providers is in disrepair.  LBHI is one of the few Latino organizations attempting to bridge the “Science to Service” gap.
  7. Capacity building is essential to meeting the growing need of the Latino community.  LBHI has a goal of increasing its staff over the next five years to a total of 30 professional staff.  These staff will expand the previously listed activities.  Additionally LBHI is establishing a building planning fund.  The final outcome of the planning fund will be a road map to building the LBHI office facilities
